Dedicated Hosting allows you to rent an entire Server. Most Hosting – for example, our Web Hosting and Reseller Hosting packages – use Shared Servers, where other customers use the same Server as you. You do not share a Dedicated Server with anyone unless you want to. Dedicated Servers are also more flexible than Shared Servers, because you have full control over the Server – you can choose the Operating System, and what hardware and software is installed.
What are the benefits of having a Dedicated Server?
There are several benefits to having a Dedicated Server. You have total freedom over what software and applications are installed. If you feel your Server isn't fast enough, you can upgrade it. You can also Host as many Domains on one Server as your hardware will allow, and your website's can grow without the restrictions of a Shared Server.
Why do all Vital Servers come with a Linux Operating System?
Dedicated Servers use the Linux OS as we feel this is the most secure Hosting platform on which to Host a website – the Windows equivalent has far more vulnerabilities than the Linux OS.
How many websites can I Host on a Dedicated Server?
Dedicated Hosting allows you to Host hundreds of Domains on a single Server – as long as you have the hardware to Host them. You will also need to pick the correct CPanel license for the amount of Domains you need.
How easy is it to operate my Server?
Our servers are designed so that all clients of all abilities can make productive use of their Dedicated Server. A Dedicated Server can be controlled entirely via the intuitive graphical interface of the CPanel Control Panel. For users who want advanced control methods, full access to the Unix Shell via SSH/SCP is, of course, provided as standard. Any other tasks can be achieved if you have working knowledge of the Linux Operating System – alternatively, our team can carry out custom tasks on the your behalf.
What software can I install?
You can install any software you want on your Dedicated Server – as long as the software is not illegal or malicious in its use.
What happens if the Server software or hardware fails?
All our Dedicated Servers are updated with the latest Server security patches. We perform sophisticated monitoring of all servers, 24/7 – so in the unlikely event of a software or hardware issue, we are immediately aware of the problem. We also set up and manage secure backups, sent to offsite storage using high level encryption, for all our Servers, so there is always a backup to restore in an emergency. All server hardware and all pre-installed software is fully managed and supported by Vital Servers – any software installed by the you will be supported if necessary at our hourly rate.
